The Han and Imjin Rivers are among the most important hydrological features within Korea. The tributaries, riparian corridors and wetland complexes, especially within the zones where they converge play critical roles in the maintenance of local and regional wildlife. Increasing pressures by humans and the insults to the systems are being studied by a wide range of research agencies, including the Gyeonggi Research Institute and the DMZ Research Institute, part of the UN-GEF sponsored Korea Wetland Project.
